20 Goldenrod Driveway is the former home of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited’s (AECL) commercial products division. The 4.9-acre (1.9-hectare) site is located in Tunney’s Pasture, a large federal government centre in the City of Ottawa.
In the fall of 2000, Canada Lands Company acquired the property from the Ministry of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) after discussions regarding the provision of a new federal office building on the site. At the time of acquisition, the property contained the former AECL Commercial Products Building, a 3-storey office and manufacturing facility which had been vacant since 1984. Canada Lands Company designed a demolition program which commenced on October 23, 2000 and was completed in October, 2001.
In 2003, Canada Lands Company constructed a surface parking lot on the site, which currently is used on a daily basis by Federal Government employees working at Tunney’s Pasture.
